Lab Facilities

Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for the fabrication and mechanical characterization of soft and composite materials. Below are the primary services and equipment we offer. Feel free to contact us for more information regarding equipment availability or collaboration.

3D Printing

OBJET260 CONNEX 3

OBJET260 CONNEX 3 (Stratasys)

A high-end multi-material 3D printer capable of printing stiff ABS-like and compliant rubber-like materials.

  • Multi-Material: Can print structures comprising up to three different materials in a single build.
  • Versatility: Wide variety of digital materials ranging from soft/flexible to stiff/rigid.
  • Precision: High accuracy with layer thicknesses down to ~16 microns.

Mechanical Characterization

Instron 5943

Instron 5943 with Torsion Add-on

Characterization of the mechanical response of materials.

  • Multi-Axial: Characterization of the response of materials under tension, compression, shear, and torsion.
  • Force capacity: up to 1 kN.
Video Extensometer

Video Extensometer for Instron

A non-contact strain measurement system that provides high-precision data without affecting the mechanical behavior of soft samples.

  • Precision: Accurate measurement of local longitudinal and transverse strain.
  • Characterization: Determine the Young's modulus, the Poisson ratio, and the overall response.

Environmental Control

Environmental Chamber

Environmental Chamber

Allows for the characterization of material properties under a wide range of controlled environmental conditions.

  • Temperature range: -40°C to 150°C.
  • Relative humidity range: 20% to 98%.
  • Chamber volume: 22.5 L.
